DC Super Tour - London 1997

Weird to think it's now 10 years ago this tour rolled through London. This was one of the biggest tours since the Bones Brigade riots of the 80s with one of the best teams touching down at the just opened Playstation/Bay66 skatepark. Rick Howard, Mike Carroll, Huf, Rudy, Carl Shipman, Colin McKay...it was well worth the trip up from Southsea for the weekend. In the evening it was a boozy Drum 'n' Bass night DJed by Goldie with free booze. Thank God for Gorm putting us up for the night and driving.

Behind the rope baby

Rick Howard killed it, as always

Colin McKay on the vert ceiling

Huf was ollie out of the quarter and pivoting on the cut out, nuts

Canadian skate mag SBC has a great interview with Rick Howard up on their website, well worth a read.

Rasa Libre 2004

Speaking of Rasa back in the day reminded me of when the team was over for the Rasa art show 'Cosmic Flash' at Cide (also sadly missed). It was a mix of Rasa based Michael Leon artwork and boards with Nate Jones providing entertainment with his guitar. Leon was there, I think Dan Wolfe was and the full pro team too (Reese Forbes, Matt Field & Nate Jones). It was a good night. 2004 was one of the best years for going out and doing things. Anyway, I dug out the photos.

Rasa Libre

I'm pretty sure it'll never be as good as it was back when it was part of DLX, Michael Leon was doing the graphics and Dan Wolfe did the video...but this teaser gives hope. at least it looks like Matt Field is skating again and the ams are decent.

Southwold

Visited my parents in Southwold at the weekend, the place is a small Georgian town on the coast of Suffolk.

Shoot To Thrill

I have been a fan of the Canadian skate magazine Color for a fair few years now. Recently they had a video competition a little like Day In The City with 3 skaters, a videographer, a photographer and 72 hours to film. The big difference was that they were given 10 reels super8 film each. Five teams entered from different Canadian cities, Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and two teams from Montreal. Interesting idea, great skating and rad edits. Have a watch...

Calgary - Group C

Montreal - Tarnished Goods

Toronto - Licensed to Thrill

Montreal - Team Hendy

Vancouver - Knife Fight

Disposable Cameras

Gorm gave me a heads up on the Lance and Chet Nike interviews up on the Kingpin website. A good read for sure but what stoked us both out most was a photo of Chet using a disposable camera. Gorm and I did interviews with both these guys and as part of the article we were putting together we gave the team 6 disposable cameras and when we got them back we used the photos in our Tweaker article. We never saw who used the cameras (although were told later which was BA's and which were Lance's and Chet's) so it's great to see a pic of them in use. The original idea of the disposable cameras came from a zine project some friends and I are in the middle of doing that has recently come back to life after a glitch in the International posting system. Fingers crossed I'll have more news on this project in the coming months.

Marc Johnson

MJ winning SOTY reminded me of an old, rare Maple Skateboards promo from 1995 I bought from SS20 whilst on a skate/booze road trip to Oxford with Gorm and Big Pete in 1996. I could attempt to remember tales of throwing bikes in rivers and over walls, streaking across main road roundabouts, Alex Moul DJing, trying to break in to University halls and the best burgers in the world...but I won't. Instead here is the uploaded MJ part (from all the way back when he was still an AM).

Big Apple Skate Trailer

Rad trailer for a new video out of New York. Sick skating and a they use a favourite song of mine, radness.

Cardiel

Stating the obvious when i say one of the all time greats. Hadn't watched this part in a while until this morning. Everything on the edge at full speed. Unique.

Radlands 1996

I'll never not regret going to Radlands summer comp in 1995. I went the following year and it was amazing, Ed Templeton, Donny Barley, Andrew Reynolds, Matt Hensley, etc but it wasn't 1995! Still, 1996 had it's moments, Penny was now the darling of the American contingent rather than the bane. Matt Hensley was amazing and Andrew Reynolds could skate for literally minutes linking trick after trick without falling. I only had my half-broken 10 quid camera with me that weekend and I shot a film consisting mainly of the back of peoples heads but it gives you a feeling of that summer weekend. The following year the big summer comp. was in London and after that the Radlands summer comp was never the same again so i guess that 1996 was the last of the best.
